.Hydration
Always cleanse the skin thoroughly as your first step, for a smooth texture don’t forget to exfoliate, and prep your skin by pumping it full of moisture using your day cream to ensure even results
.Know what skin type you arePick a formulation most suited for your skin type. For oily/Acne prone skins try a oil free foundation as this will give you the desired matt appearance, for normal to dry skins prefers a hydrating foundation to avoid a cakey appearance, the best suited foundation for sensitive skins will be your hypo-allergenic formulations
.Playing match upWhen looking for a new foundation it is curtail to not do the colour test on the back of your hands, this will ensure a match up failure as the skin on the back of the hands never match the face due to constant sun exposure, the absorption of products on the hands compared to skin is completely different thus altering the foundations colour on the skin. Select 3 shades (the one you think is closest to your skin tone, also one darker and one lighter tone), apply on a clean jaw line, and observe your reflexion in natural light, the shade that disappears is the correct one for your skin tone
.Seasonal changesWith the changes of the seasons your skin tone adjusts, in summer you will be darker and in winter your natural skin tone will be lighter thus you will have to adapt your foundation accordingly
.Primer, foundations best friendA primer helps to smooth out your complexion especially if you have any scars or blemishes, for masking redness a green based primer is used, to add life to dull skin a lavender based primer can be used
.Apply concealerApply concealer over dark circles or any other blemishes. Ensure to use under eye concealer if this is your problem area, a general concealer will dry out this delicate area and make up will appear cakey
.Perfect applicationApply a small amount of foundation to the back of the hand or a makeup palette, lightly pat the foundation onto the skin using the tip of a foundation brush, make sure to apply all the way down your neck and over your ears, blend in well
.Learn to contourTo add definition to your facial structures apply a slightly darker powder over your foundation to the desired areas to create shadows. Use a smaller angled powder brush, wipe powder along the hair line, around the curve of the cheekbone and on the jaw line, remember to blend this powder in well to create the desired affect
.Start believing in a bronzerA bronzer leaves the skin with that beautiful summer glow regardless of the season. Apply on the forehead, cheekbones, down centre of nose and on the sides of the face using a small amount on a powder brush and blend in
